How chiropractic actually works in the body…

December 20, 2014, 6:47 pm

Chiropractic is based on the scientific law that the body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism. The nervous system controls and coordinates this function in the body as well as the function of every cell, tissue, organ, and system of your body. While the brain is protected by the skull, the spinal cord is somewhat less protected by 24 moving vertebrae. When these bones lose their normal position or become misaligned, they can choke off or irritate the spinal cord and surrounding nerves. This disrupts the function of the tissues or organs controlled by these nerves leading to dis-ease. A chiropractor locates these areas of spinal malfunction and remove interferences that may be disrupting a state of optimum health.

Chiropractic works by restoring the body’s ability to heal itself. When under the proper control of your nervous system, all of the cells, tissues, and organs of the body are made to resist illness and disease. A chiropractor’s approach to better health is to locate and remove interferences to your natural state of health.

Say NO to drugs! There are many alternatives when it comes to allergies…

December 16, 2014, 11:00 pm

Dr. Burrup uses various techniques for allergy identification and treatment, including NAET and ASERT, acupuncture, computerized allergy testing and the prescription of specific homeopathic remedies.  There are many alternatives to addressing allergies and sensitivities that do not involve drugs or medications! Types of allergies that we can treat are food allergies, seasonal allergies and hay fever, and allergies to pets and other animals.

NAET (Nambudripad’s Allergy Elimination Techniques) and ASERT (Allergy/Sensitivity Elimination and Reprograming Technique) are holistic allergy treatments that utilize acupuncture therapy and other hands on techniques to help desensitize allergies.

The computerized allergy testing scans for many different allergies and sensitivities.  With that information we are then able to recommend appropriate homeopathic remedies, nutritional and herbal supplements that will help reduce allergies and improve the body’s response to the environment.

Another Success Story…

“I came in for painful headaches that were radiating from my neck to the base and back of my skull. I’d had previous positive results from chiropractic and asked a friend for a referral. After about 2 weeks my headaches improved. After about 2 months I haven’t had any recurrence of those headaches.”

Sports Injuries and Chiropractic

December 9, 2014, 11:17 pm

Dr. Trent J. Burrup is a Certified Chiropractic Extremity Practitioner (C.C.E.P.) and has been trained to treat multifaceted extremity problems both on and off the athletic field. Did you know that there is an intimate relationship and influence of one joint to every other joint in the body?  Because of this, extremity adjusting is essential for providing quality health care for both athletic injuries and non-athletic extremity conditions.

“Extremities” means anything outside of the spine, for example ribs, knees, shoulders, feet and ankles, wrists and elbows. Some of the more common extremity conditions include carpal tunnel syndrome, frozen shoulder syndrome, plantar fasciitis, sprained joints, strained muscles, rotator cuff problems, bunions, arch pain, heel spurs, and separated shoulders.  An extremity adjustment can help these conditions and many more.

More on Essential Oils…

December 3, 2014, 10:52 pm

Essential oils are extracted from the aromatic essences of certain plants, trees, fruit, flowers, herbs, and spices.  They are natural, volatile oils with identifiable chemical and medicinal properties.  Over 150 essential oils have been extracted, each one with its own scent and unique healing properties.Essential Oil image 2 for Individual Page on Essential Oils

Despite considerable research, the chemistry of essential oils is not fully understood.  Each oil is composed of at least 100 different chemical constituents.  The oils and their actions are extremely complex.  All the oils are antiseptic, but each one also has individual properties; for example, they may be analgesic, fungicidal, diuretic, or expectorant.  The collective components of each oil also work together to give the oil a dominant characteristic.  It can be relaxing, as in the case of chamomile, refreshing, like the citrus grapefruit, or stimulating, like the aromatic rosemary.

Within the body, essential oils are able to operate in three ways:  pharmacologically, physiologically, and psychologically.  From a pharmacological perspective, the chemical components of the oils react with the body chemistry in a way that is similar to drugs, but slower, more sympathetic, and with few side-effects.  Essential oils also have notable physiological effects.  Certain oils have an affinity with particular areas of the body.  For example, rose has an affinity with the female reproductive system, while spice oils tend to benefit the digestive system.  The oil may also sedate an overactive system, or stimulate a different part of the body that is sluggish.  Some oils, such as lavender, are known as adaptogens, meaning they do whatever the body requires of them at the time.  The psychological response is triggered by the effect that the aromatic molecules have on the brain.

Applications and Uses of Essential Oils

  • Diffusion is when the oil is released into the air.  This may be done with air diffusers or by putting 10-12 drops in a spray bottle with water, shaking vigorously, and spraying around a room.
  • Topically, oils may be applied over the area of complaint.  The bottoms of the feet and ears are also good for application because of the large number of acupuncture points in those areas of the body.
  • Inhalation is when the oil is directly breathed in through the nose. This allows the oil to be directly absorbed into the brain through the first cranial nerve (olfactory nerve).  This should typically be done in conjunction with any other application in order to speed the effects of the oil in the body through neurological stimulation.  Inhalation of some oils can lead to headaches, so start with light inhalation.

Did you know??? We have our own line of Essential Oils!

December 1, 2014, 11:52 pm

Essential Oils have been used for more than a thousand years for countless health problems and conditions as well as for use in daily living (cleaning, perfumes, etc.). They can have a tremendous effect on the mind and body with a very small dose and very few side effects.

At the Institute we have our own private line of essential oils under the label Essential Essence, which may be purchased from us anywhere within the United States. They are extremely high quality and NOT sold through network marketing.

All of our Single Oils are” NEAT”, meaning 100% of the PURE oil labeled.  Essential oils are not all created equal and although many companies claim they sell pure oils, many do not. True essential oils are very expensive to produce, and many companies in the industry take shortcuts to save on costs, cutting their oils with cheaper therapeutic oils. Our Oil Blends are also 100% pure therapeutic grade oils, a few of which ARE blended with a high quality carrier oil.  The reason for this is to decrease the intensity of some of the “hot” oils or to help increase the surface area for absorption.  All our labels state if the oil blends have been blended with a carrier oil.

We can offer our aromatherapy essential oils at a lower cost than other high quality oils because we are NOT selling them through MLM/network marketing, there are no memberships, downlines, or minimums to buy every month as with many high quality essential oil brands.  Additionally, discounts are available for therapists and others who purchase larger volumes for resale in their own practices.
