Headaches Do NOT Have To Be Part of Your Normal Life!

November 26, 2015, 12:04 am

Headaches are common, NOT normal.  And because they are so common, many people think that getting a headache is just a normal part of life!  It doesn’t have to be……

Headaches are most often a sign that something is not right in your body.  There are many types of headaches and many things can cause headaches such as: stress, hormones, certain foods, preservatives, alcohol, and toxic fumes, just to name a few.  A frequent and overlooked cause of headaches is the malfunction of spinal bones in the neck and upper back…bones being out of alignment.  This can affect the nerves and blood vessels to the head.  When nerves and surrounding tissues are stretched or irritated because of misalignment, they can produce painful headaches.  Medications may cover up the pain, but do not correct the underlying structural cause.

Many people find relief and correction with chiropractic care.  The Institute of Chiropractic and Acupuncture headache, woman in painTherapy has helped many people get drug-free results, drastically reducing or totally eliminating patient’s headaches!  Some estimates suggest that 25% of the population has a headache right now…are you one of them?

For more information on how chiropractic, acupuncture, and other modalities can help your headaches, please see our What We Do page at SuperDocDC.com.

So, What is CranioSacral Therapy?

November 19, 2015, 4:45 pm

CranioSacral Therapy is a light-touch manual therapy that addresses restrictions in the craniosacral system, which system includes the membranes and fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. This vital system extends from the bones of the skull and face, which make up the cranium, down to the sacrum or tailbone area.

CranioSacral Therapy is performed using light touch generally no more than the weight of a nickel.  The practitioner monitors the rhythm of the craniosacral system to detect potential imbalances. The therapist then uses delicate manual techniques to release those problem areas of the craniosacral system and relieve undue pressure on the brain and spinal cord.  This results in a craniosacral system free of restrictions and a body that is better able to heal itself.

CranioSacral Therapy can assist in treating a wide range of illnesses, pain, and dysfunction, including:

  • Migraines and Headaches
  • Chronic Neck and Back Pain
  • cranium1Motor-Coordination Impairments
  • Stress and Tension-Related Problems

What Can Chiropractic Care Do For Me?

November 16, 2015, 4:44 pm

Dr. Trent Burrup answers the question, “What Can Chiropractic Care Do For Me?”

Chiropractic works by restoring the body’s ability to heal itself. When under the proper control of your nervous system, all of the cells, tissues, and organs of the body are made to resist illness and disease. A chiropractor’s approach to better health is to locate and remove interferences to your natural state of health.

Chiropractors are often thought of as back doctors and have tremendous success treating back pain, neck pain, and headaches.  However, since the primary focus of your care is improved nervous system function, a spinal adjustment given by a chiropractor can have a positive effect on many other health conditions not typically associated with chiropractic.

The goal of our clinic is to help our patients become empowered with their health, achieving their optimal wellness goals.  If you are suffering needlessly from pain, have a condition that has not responded well to medical care or other chiropractic treatment, or are trying to achieve optimal wellness in your life, a chiropractor can help you on the road back to better health.  The ability to prevent disease through optimum function is why many people also receive periodic chiropractic care without having any symptoms or when their treatment is complete.  This is known as “wellness” care.

The Institute of Chiropractic & Acupuncture Therapy provides care in Salt Lake City and surrounding areas including West Jordan, South Jordan, Sandy, Draper, Taylorsville, Murray, Riverton, Herriman, Bluffdale, Cottonwood Heights, Holiday, Millcreek, West Valley City, and South Salt Lake.  We also provide service to patients that come from the Utah County area and as far north as Logan, and even some from out of state…come experience the difference at The Institute!

Nutrition and Chiropractic: A Healthy Lifestyle

November 6, 2015, 6:41 am

Many chronic health problems are a result of nutritional deficiencies.  If organs in the body are not getting the nutrients they need, over time they begin to wear out and break down, ultimately leading to disease. The best source of nutrition is from healthy food.  However, the typical diet of most Americans is not healthy!

For this reason, nutritional supplementation can be very beneficial, and for some it is a must.  However, the quality of a nutritional supplement is extremely important.  Some supplements are made from whole foods and some are synthetically made chemicals.   Synthetic vitamins only contain one small chemically made portion of the vitamin complex.  For example, the body cannot use the chemical “ascorbic acid” (marketed as Vitamin C) in the same way it uses the whole Vitamin C complex found in food because a single synthetic “vitamin” does not have all the components contained in food.  In fact, many recent studies are showing that synthetic vitamins are actually creating more health problems than they are helping.  Whole food nutritional supplements are far superior to synthetic vitamins.  Whole food nutritional supplements allow the body to get the whole vitamin complex in its most useful form.

Proper nutrition in addition to regular adjustments by your chiropractor can help prevent disease, balance the body so it can heal itself and overcome physical and emotional stress and illnesses, and most importantly…you will feel better!

At the Institute, in addition to chiropractic and wellness therapies, Dr. Burrup educates and counsels our patients on how to make healthy lifestyle and diet choices, leading to more energy, fewer health problems, weight loss (or gain when needed), and overall better health.  Good Nutrition and Chiropractic Care really do make a Healthy Lifestyle!

Acupuncture Without Needles….Really!

November 2, 2015, 11:32 pm

Ever been nervous about acupuncture? Learn about NEEDLE-LESS ACUPUNCTURE and what alternatives can be used instead with acupuncture points.

But first…here is the truth about needles: The needles used in acupuncture are very small compared to needles used for getting shots or drawing blood.  Six to ten acupuncture needles will fit inside a standard hypodermic needle used for drawing blood.  They are very thin and, depending on the style of acupuncture used, can be inserted a couple of millimeters or a full inch into the acupoint.  Many people do not feel the acupuncture needles when they are inserted. Those that do feel any discomfort equate it with that of a small pinch during the acupuncture treatment.

However, Needles Do Not Have to be Used in Acupuncture. Some of the other forms of stimulation to acupuncture points include laser light, electrical impulses, firm rubbing or pressure, tapping the point, or taping an object to the point such as a small metal ball.
